3 Fitness Spots to Start Your Resolution Right

December 27th, 2018 by

One of the most popular New Year’s resolutions is to get in shape and lose weight, and for good reason. Living a healthier lifestyle and getting in shape has a cascading positive effect on many other facets of your life. So how do you get your resolution off to a good start? Here are a few Raleigh-area fitness spots to get your resolution started on the right foot.

1. Join a CrossFit Gym

Crossfit involves high-intensity exercises done in intervals called HIIT. It’s a great way to get in shape fast, and the mix of workouts will make every trip to the gym a new and exciting experience. A CrossFit gym is great for anyone who doesn’t like overly repetitive exercises.

There are plenty of CrossFit gyms local to the Raleigh area, including CrossFit Invoke on South Saunders Street and CrossFit Goliath on Departure Drive. However, there are plenty more than that, so try to find one that fits into your commute and schedule.

2. Hit Up the Triangle Rock Club

Another great way to get in excellent shape is to join a rock climbing gym. Triangle Rock Club has several locations, including Raleigh. When you go rock climbing, you work out the entire body. You’ll shed a ton of calories while creating lean but defined muscles. If you’ve never been rock climbing, plan on a couple days of serious rest and relaxation following your workout, as most of your muscles will be sore.

Triangle offers a membership plan that gives you unlimited access to the rock climbing area and fitness centers. The gym also offers yoga and pilates classes to help you gain flexibility and balance. If you’re new to rock climbing, they do offer classes for beginners, so don’t let that deter you. Rock climbing is an absolute blast, and it’s a great way to get a quality workout without the typical gym experience

3. Join a Regular Gym

You shouldn’t ignore joining a regular gym just because there are more adventurous options available. A standard gym will usually have a wide range of strength and cardio equipment to train on, so it’s easy to create a variety in your workout. You also get to workout at your own pace without being rushed. There are dozens of area gyms, including private gyms and chains such as Planet Fitness.

When it comes to succeeding at your fitness goals for 2019, it’s important to keep a few things in mind. Try not to do it alone. Grab a friend or family member to get in shape with you. You’ll feed off each other’s energy and have a greater chance of success. Try using a fitness tracking app or Fitbit. Looking at the charts and watching your resting heart rate improve can be big motivators for success. Remember to set realistic goals. It’s much easier to reach attainable goals and you’re more likely to continue your fitness journey if you reach small goals.

Most importantly, don’t give up. The results will come with hard work and dedication. Happy New Year!
